Caution While Pregnant

Many friends wonder why I don't really enjoy being pregnant. Or why I am only having two kids. Beside the fact that all I really want is two. One for each parent, or one for each hand when I am alone.

Oh yeah and I SUCK at being pregnant!

I have very difficult pregnancies.

Not, oh I am throwing up 16 times a day for 6 months difficult. Although that would be horrible, I would rather do that I think. (I'm not saying being sick is easy either, I would just rather be sick all the time!)

I'm talking babies coming early and being on bed rest difficult.

With Jakah I was put on bed rest at 27 weeks. And honestly we were lucky to even find out when we did. I seem to carry them funny. They are head down from the beginning. With Jakah we had to have 6 ultrasounds to try and get pictures of his brain to make sure he was OK. His head was just so far down in my pelvis. Eventually we did a 3-d ultrasound (which is amazing!) and found out I had a shortened cervix. Really short! I was given steroid shots and put on bed rest for 9 weeks. The week after I was taken off bed rest Jakah showed up.

Yesterday morning I went to the bathroom and there was blood. I freaked out. There shouldn't be blood. Called the Dr and text my husband. He came straight home from work and took me into the Dr, where they first checked my cervix to make sure it was still in tact.

Good news is that everything is fine, Jensen is good and active and I'm not in labor.

Bad news is they have no idea why I was bleeding. And its a high possibility I will be getting put on bed rest again. In fact I put myself on bed rest for the day.

Bed rest is boring, but bed rest with a 2 year old. How is that even going to work? And I hope I don't get put in the hospital (there was talks of it last time)

Its scary, REALLY scary! Its one of the worst feelings I have ever experienced.

Monday Listicles - My Life Soundtrack

I took last week off from doing the listicles. But this week I am so excited for the topic Bruna of Bees with Honey has chosen.

“If they were to make a movie of your life what would the soundtrack be like? Share 10 songs that best tell the story of your life. Be sure to include the period or event that each song represents”.

Yay!! It makes me all giddy inside!

It was tough narrowing it down to 10 (ok I couldn't narrow it down to 10! I feel like there are so many more songs I want to add), and I feel like its mostly country music. Especially Brad Paisley because he seems to be going thru the same stuff in life at the same time we are. Plus I like his songs and can relate to them. (almost too well!)

So here the list goes!

10. Wake Me Up Before You Go Go - Wham
This was my favorite song as a kid. My aunt was a teenager when I was born, and taught me how to sing it.

9. Wide Open Spaces - Dixie Chicks
This was the first concert I was allowed to go to with my friends in high school. We got to drive all the way to Tacoma (its like 2 hours away!) It was also around the time we were going to be graduating so it hit home

8. Dirt Road Anthem - Jason Aldean
As soon as this song came out I INSTANTLY thought about high school and growing up in a small town. We used to go out and hang out at the end of dirt roads, or out in the woods.

7. Mud on the Tires - Brad Paisley
This song came out right as my husband and I started dating. And he happened to have gotten a new Chevrolet. Seemed to fit us at the time.

6.Warning - Incubus
Bought tickets to see Incubus for Casey when we were dating. I broke my tooth that date, but still went to the concert even though the vibrations hurt like heck!

5. Little Moments - Brad Paisley
This is the song Casey and I danced to at our wedding. We aren't really super sappy types, this explains us

4. Grow Old With You - Adam Sandler
I loved this song at our wedding

3. Not Ready To Make Nice - Dixie Chicks
We went thru losing a lot of friends about 5 years ago, do to a stupid union strike. This song came out about then and just reminds me of how I felt. Plus I LOVE anything by the Dixie Chicks!

2. Anything Like Me - Brad Paisley
This song came out at the same time as finding out we were find out Jakah's gender!

1. I Just Call You Mine - Martina McBride
Whenever I head this song I think of Jakah. Its how I feel after I had him.

Extra!! Just couldn't leave these off!

Smile - Uncle Kracker
This song also makes me think of Jakah!

Lullaby - Dixie Chicks
And I cried my eyes out to this song when my sweet nephew was born. I think of him every time I hear it

Benny and the Jets - Elton Jon Jakah giggles hysterically every time this song comes on. Its hilarious
Poor Little Broken Truck - Caspar Babypants
Jakah loves Caspar Babypants. Who by the way used to be the lead singer for The Presidents of the United States of America. He travels around Washington and plays shows at libraries among other places. I took Jakah to see him.

I do listen to lots of other music, but obviously Brad Paisley is pretty high on my list. I feel like every time something big in our lives is happening, he has a song coming out about it at the same time. Now if only my husband would take me to a concert to see him!

Better buy a lottery ticket, I'm feeling lucky

Do you ever have one of those days where you are just lucky?

We have been looking for another crib for Jensen. We wanted one that would match Jakah's and found it on clearance for $300. Not bad, and since I technically never bought Jakah's (it was my nephews), I wasn't feeling too bad about having to buy another one.

Well I thought I'd check craigslist. After looking for a few days, guess what I found. The exact crib, in the exact color. And includes a mattress! Oh and its only $200!

So then, while feeling bored at work, I decided to start looking into double strollers. Jakah isn't quite old enough to walk. I don't want to get rid of my Maclaren either, but I need something that can hold both of the boys. I want something around the same size.

I look up strollers and read reviews on Babies R Us. I decided I really like the Joovy Ultralight Caboose double stroller.

Again, decide to look on craigslist. Score again! Found one for $150 (normally $259!) and it comes with the car seat attachment that I would have had to buy extra! They had only used it 5 times! Its practically brand new :)

Not that I wanted Orange, but I'm not going to be picky here!

Not sure if my husband is happy I found all this for less than we expected, or mad that I found it all in one weekend :)

We are off to pick up all my sweet deals today :) It definitely was an amazing craigslist find day!

Train Crayons

Jakah turns two next Friday. Of course he has to have his birthday party on Super Bowl Sunday again this year. Sorry Kid. So since I am trying to not make it all about football I thought I would throw him a train party. (oh and he is ridiculously into trains for some reason!)
Finding train themed party stuff is hard if you don't want Thomas the Train. (which I don't cause that shows drives me crazy! ugh!)
I ended up making his invitations, party favor bags, and train crayons to go into the bags.

I did find out that if using cheap dollar store crayons DO NOT work for this project.

(I also should have taken more pictures,  but I forgot until I was almost done!)

I found this chocolate train mold on Amazon for $6 and figured it would work well for the crayons.

Then I gathered all the broken Crayola crayons I could find. I even found an old plastic tool box of Casey's with brand new, really old crayons in it! Worked great!

Heat oven to 400 degree

Peel off crayons paper (this took FOREVER and I have so many paper cuts under my thumb nail!)

I found lining the cupcake pan with cupcake liners worked best so I didn't have to clean the pan over and over. Oh and use 2 liners so the wax doesn't bleed thru.

I matched all my crayons up to the same colors and did 4 or 5 colors at a time. Since I was using broken crayons I didn't have much wax in each cup.

Heat for about 8 - 10 minutes, checking on them often. You don't want the wax to burn! (it smells horrible!!)

Take pan out of oven and let wax sit for a minute or two before pouring into the mold. Or the mold will melt! (yep did that too!)

After I poured them in the mold I would let the mold sit on the counter for a few more minutes, and then pop it into the freezer until the crayons were hard. About 10 mins total.

Oh and then I started the process all over again! Good thing we were snowed in with no where to go because I made 5,469 million crayons. Ok not really that many, but it felt like it.

I made so many I broke the mold and had to throw it away! But just enough for the 12 party favor bags I needed :)

Here are a few more pictures of how the crayons turned out.

I just put the trains in the goodie bags. My husband asked where I got the labels. He looked so surprised to find out I made them. Guess he never knew I was so crafty!

I'm sure over the next week everyone will be train partied out by all the stuff I will be showing off that I made. (I know I am tired of seeing trains!)

I can't wait to show off the cake though! Its my favorite part :)

WTF Wednesday - 1.25.2012

Dear Direct TV-

We signed up with you two years ago. We were happy with your service for about a year. Then our equipment stopped working right. We called you numerous times, only to have you tell us that either, a) you know about the problem and can't fix it, b) its the weather (even in the middle of a sunny hot summer)or c) our equipment is faulty but I have to pay $50 for someone to come out and make sure I'm not lying. And then perhaps I would get new equipment, that I'd still have to pay a fee for the equipment to be replaced.

I was annoyed then, but put up with it because of the contract. The contract ended a few months ago and my bill went up $40 a month. I called and you kindly took the $40 off for a year.

Now I have received an e-mail from you telling me that I can no longer have the Sprout channel. One of only a few channels my child is allowed to watch. And one of the few reasons I was staying with you. But now it is being taken away, unless I pay more money for the higher channel package. And frankly why would I bother since my equipment STILL doesn't work because I refuse to pay $50 to have you come out.

I find it funny that after reading the Sprout website, they do not agree with what you are doing either. (you can read it here)

I will be calling to cancel our service as soon as I figure out what company to go with instead. Or I may just go with the Roku which will cost me less money anyways.

Better customer service would keep your customers around.

A baby changes everything

When I was pregnant with Jakah, I had worries like most first time moms. Mostly about giving birth, and not really caring for a baby before. Not knowing what to do. But, we were going from just the two of us to three.

I remember coming home from the hospital, sitting on the couch and looking at each other, saying "now what?"

Sure we had no idea what we were doing, but it was one tiny being. How hard can it be? (bahahahaha famous last words right?!)

But Johnson & Johnson, (Oh and Faith Hill's Christmas song) seem to say it best.

But now that I know what is involved, this time I feel like I have different worries. So many different emotions than I had the first time.

What were we thinking? Can I handle two? How will Jakah react? Will we ever get to go on a vacation? Will Jensen screaming at night keep Jakah up? Is Jensen going to be as act? Have the same personality? Am I going to have two crazy kamikaze kids running rampant?

I am not a person that likes change much. And this is a big change. Going from just taking care of one to caring for two! Having two little dictators running the show! (lets be honest, they are bossy for being so little!)

Being stuck at home for 3 days during this Snowpocalypse has really made me think of lots of things. (and clean out a lot of things!)

Most the time I don't really feel like I am cut out for this mom business....Now instead of ruining one kid, I'm ruining two. I'm sure everyone says that at one point right?

Heated Rice Bags = Heaven

My back hurts. And its not just my back, its my lower back and hips. I seem to carry kids low. Really low. Like already dropped low... So my hips are killing me. Of course it doesn't help carrying a 30+ lb kid also.

So after listening to me bitch whine, my husband finally suggested a rice bag. He said he had one in high school that was a 2 foot long tube. I searched everywhere and couldn't seem to find one. So I decided to try out that sewing machine he got me and make one.

Supplies Needed:
1 Yard of Flannel
5 lbs of rice

I started off with a yard of flannel. It doesn't take the whole yard, I just had that laying around. (I did a corduroy one too, looks cute but seems to need longer to heat up)

I folded the yard in half long ways and cut a piece 14 inches wide. (and yes I am sewing using a builders tape measure... its all I could find)

Unfold it, and fold it in half long ways

It should be about 40 inches long. (and yes my pictures suck)

Turn it inside out and sew one end and the long side shut, leaving only 1 end open.

I found it easier to fold down, and fill with 2 cups of rice. (I also put in some lavender oil to smell pretty)

This is where my sewing skills get really awesome!

Shake down the 2 cups of rice until you can sew a pocket shut. Sew across and close it.

Repeat 5 or 6 times. So you have 5 or 6 pockets. (I messed up the first few and they only have 4-5 pockets!)

I ended up using a whole 5 lbs bag of rice. I like the weight of it. You can add less if you want to.

When at the end, fold the edges over and sew shut. It should look like this

Here is the one I made in corduroy

Because its super long I can wrap it all the way around my hips. Or if your shoulders and neck hurt you can wrap it all the way around.

Just heat it in the microwave for about 4 to 4 1/2 minutes. Should stay warm for at least half and hour!

It perhaps the greatest thing I have ever made. Sure my sewing skills suck, and my seams aren't even but who cares! It works like its supposed to.

I ended up making a ton of these for Christmas gifts also and EVERYONE has said its amazing!

Let me know if you make one of these! Oh and let me know If I didn't explain it well, I can try again :)

Never, Say Never - Monday Listicles

This week Stasha over at The Good Life has chosen Greta at Not Enough Patience to pick our Monday Listicles topic of the week.
"I'll Never...." The Top Ten Things You Said You Would Never Do and Have Caught Yourself Doing

It reminds me of the song from "American Tale" Never, Say Never... (I just watched it with Jakah) I can think of so many things, especially since becoming a mom that I thought I would never do

1 - I NEVER thought I would become a mom. Never really something I dreamed about

2 - I Never Thought I'd............. be a stay at home mom

3 - I Never Thought I'd..............use the TV to babysit so I could take a shower

4 - I Never Thought I'd ..............have to fight someone so much over eating dinner (or anything really)

5 - I Never Thought I'd...............say the same things my parents said to me

6 - I Never Thought I'd...............have to drag my kid, kicking and screaming, outside to play in the snow

7 - I Never Thought I'd................pray for my kid to sleep past 6:30

8 - I Never Thought I'd................look forward to going grocery shopping or nap time

9 - I Never Thought I'd................get bored of cooking dinner

10 - I Never Thought I'd..............look forward to going to bed at 9

Dirty Thirty and the Snowpocalypse

Today my husband is dirty thirty!!! 30 years old! I have celebrated 10 of his birthdays with him. So weird!!! Anyways he didn't want to do anything big for his 30th. He had his mid-life crisis at 25 (you can read about it Here)

All he wanted was a steak and a beer. So I took him out for steak and a beer. Oh and a movie! We saw Contraband and normally I love Mark Wahlberg but he didn't take his shirt off in the movie and that's just sad!

Casey also wanted Jakah to have his first sleepover at grandma's. I'd rather have someone watch him during the day, when he's not sleeping. (its not to bad when he's sleeping!) So to say I wasn't ready for it is an understatement, but it has to happen sometime right?

Yesterday started Snowpocalypse 2012..... and it hasn't stopped snowing yet. Its really weird because no where else really has snow either. We have 10 inches and counting.

Casey is so happy it snowed for his birthday! We didn't really sleep in, even without a kid. So we got up, went to breakfast and then picked up Jakah. Which probably was a good thing cause we only had 4 inches when we left... and we came home to 8. We would have never been able to get out of our house to pick him  up if we had waited!

Grown men are about as funny as kids in the snow. We did doughnuts all night last night. And I keep watching people drive up the street, most of them men. Either on 4 wheelers or their trucks. All grinning as big as they can. It cracks me up! Casey tries so hard to get my Subaru sliding and he can't do it as much as he wants to. Yesterday all I heard was, "these new tires are so much better than the other ones. Except now we can't slide at all."

At least I feel safer knowing I have awesome tires! They cost me a fortune!

Here are Snowpocalypse playing pictures! Hope everyone had as much fun this weekend as we did!
