WTF Wednesday - Still Pregnant

With my first son, I fully expected to go to 40 weeks. Had no problems with it. Even though I had a shortened cervix and was on bed rest, I was pretty sure I was going all the way. So what a pleasant surprise it was when he was born at exactly 38 weeks.

This time I fully expected to deliver early again. Why wouldn't I? I have the same problems this time and last time. Everything should be the same.

But here I sit, at 38 weeks and 4 days (but who's counting)... Its the longest I have ever been pregnant....

Normally I wouldn't be annoyed or stressed, but you see I am due June 9th. My husband's work is sending him to Oregon June 11th for training. This training only happens once every two years. So he has to go. Sure its only for two days and nights, but as soon as he gets back he has another training class at his shop that he has to go to.

So the longer I go, the more likely means it will be just me, alone, by myself with a newborn and a two year old. And it SCARES me.... seriously scares me! (Yes I know it seems far away, but really its only a week or so) Worst comes to worst, I could go into labor after he has driven the 6 hours to Portland, and he has to turn around and miss the training all together...

Last time he took the first week off to help out. Let me heal, sleep, help, get adjusted..... whatever. This time it doesn't look like he will get to take time off. Unless this kid gets the heck out!

Last week at the Dr, she said I was 2 cm dilated and 75% effaced. Great... I told her my predicament. She said she would induce me at 39 weeks.

But that is a last resort, I would rather not be induced if I don't have to (I know, I know I want it all).

She said to go home and walk, walk, walk. And have lots of sex. Yeah..... that's possible with a 2 year old around. Oh and have I mentioned I am huge! Oh and been on pelvic rest for about 4 months.... super fun huh!

Either way, I did those things, and ate pineapple, spicy food, and pretty much anything else short of taking Castor oil (I heard that stuff is NASTY! and doesn't really help!)....

Today I am going to get a pedicure in hopes they rub the pressure point in my ankle. Maybe I'll have to get a massage too, ask them to press the pressure points there too. And at the Dr tomorrow see if she will strip my membranes....maybe... it scares me too. (i'm such a wimp when it comes to this stuff!)

WTF why is this kid being stubborn!!!! Just come out already!

Oh P.S. The Y button on my keyboard doesn't hardly work anymore! Its hard to type out blog posts... WTF!

P.P.S. - My legs feel like they are only attached by ligaments, and not in socket. It hurts to walk, sleep or sit. And they seem to do whatever they want

Last days of being an only child

Its been a long few days. I am done and over being pregnant. Just reached the point where I am cranky (crankier), in pain, ready to meet this little guy, and just get the delivery over and done with.

Until I looked over at Jakah and realized his whole world is about to be turned upside down.

He will no longer be the only little boy around here.
He will no longer be the "baby" or an only child.
He will forever have to share his mom and dad.
He will forever be the big brother, the one Jensen will look up to.
The boy who will guide his brother threw life, and hopefully be his friend.
super hero

And it makes me a little sad knowing we only have a few weeks? (days? hours?) left of it just being the two of us.

I need these last few days to be just about him, because who knows when it will only be him again. Perhaps never.

Jensen is an infant, he won't notice or care who feeds him, changes his diaper or holds him. But Jakah will. So I need to spend extra time with him, take him to do special things. Just the two of us.
Does anyone have any tips on how to make it an easier transition from one kid to two?

Peanut Butter Chocolate Rice Krispie Treat Disaster

At our house we like plain old regular rice krispie treats. OK I make them a little extra gooey, but that's it. But my mom requested I make Peanut Butter Chocolate rice krispies for her. I thought easy peasy! I had her buy the ingredients I needed, marshmallows, chocolate chips, rice krispies, and peanut butter.

And I set out to make the PERFECT peanut butter chocolate rice krispie treats.

First I melted the butter and peanut butter together

And then added in the marshmallows. I added a few extra to make them gooey.

I had the chocolate chips added to the cereal

and pour the gooey marshmallow / peanut butter mixture in. And proceeded to make a DISASTER! Ugh! The chocolate chips melted (duh! what was I thinking?) so I created a heavy, gooey mess. So much so that I didn't even want to take a picture and put it up.

So I decided to start over, I again mixed the melted butter and peanut butter together. Added the marshmallows. I didn't add any extra this time. Added the mixture to the rice krispies and put into the pan. All good so far

Instead of chocolate chips, I cut up Hersey chocolate bars and melted them down. I only did this because I didn't have any chocolate chips and didn't want to go to the store. I had the bars to make S'mores, which now I have to go get bars!

I then poured the mixture on top of the krispie treats.... and it promptly soaked thru. Maybe because they were bar form? not sure....

I put it in the fridge thinking it would harden into a chocolate layer on top.... It sadly did not

But this is what it turned out to be. Totally not what I was attempting to make, and at this point I am throwing in the towel and giving up!

These treats were good, just not what I was attempting to make at all.

Here is the recipe if you are curious....

3 tbsp butter
1 bag (10 oz) large marshmallows
6 cups rice krispies
1 cup peanut butter
4 Hersey chocolate bars

Melt butter and peanut butter together. Add marshmallows and melt down. Add mixture to 6 cups of rice krispies and stir until incorporated. Press mixture into a 9x13 pan. Allow to cool.

Melt chocolate bars in pan on low heat. Pour mixture on top of bars.

I can't figure out for the life of me why it didn't work. I googled it, and found a lot of recipes used corn syrup but not marshmallows. Not really a rice krispie treat then is it?

If anyone has a better way to make these I would love to hear it!
